Kaigunbo Pool
Great place for snorkeling! A natural pool where charming fish swim
Surrounded by precipitous cliffs and deep seas, unlike many of Okinawa’s other neighboring islands, there are no white sandy beaches on Minami-Daito Island.
On such an island, we recommend the popular spot, Kaigunbo Pool, if you want to go for a swim. Although it is known as a pool, it was made by carving out rocks and is a tide pool where seawater collects.
Kaigunbo Pool is located on the eastern side of the island and there is another man-made pool carved out of rocks on the western side of the island called Shioya Pool. We recommend deciding on which pool to go to depending on the direction and strength of the wind and tide conditions.
In comparison to Shioya Pool, Kaigunbo Pool is larger and is characterized by the rectangularly patterned rocky area around it. Park your car on the hill then walk down the steep hill road to get to the pool. It is also a great place for snorkeling as the waters are very clear and there are many tropical fish.
The view of the Pacific Ocean from the top of the hill along with the exquisite pool are a site worth-seeing! It is a great photo spot so we recommend stopping by even if you don’t plan to swim.
