Shioya Pool

A man-made pool where you can enjoy a great view as you swim

Minami-Daito Island is surrounded by precipitous cliffs and deep seas, making it impossible for ferries to land at the island. Due to its topography, unlike many of Okinawa’s other neighboring islands, there are no white sandy beaches on the island.

Shioya Pool was made by carving out rocks so that children could enjoy swimming in the ocean. Although it is called a pool, it is a tide pool where seawater collects.

Shioya Pool is located on the western side of the island and there is another man-made pool carved out of rocks on the eastern side of the island called Kaigunbo Pool. It is advisable to choose a pool based on the direction and strength of the wind and tide conditions. Compared to Kaigunbo Pool, it is smaller and shallower, making it suitable for young children. In the evening you can enjoy the view of the sunset from the pool.
