Experience Nostalgic Okinawa at Ryukyu Mura

Ryukyu Mura is an experience-based theme park where you can enjoy Okinawa’s traditional cultural. It is located in Onna Village in Kunigami District, about 1 hour away from Naha Airport by car. It is a sightseeing spot where you can experience nostalgic olden day Okinawa.

With  9 old Okinawan-style houses that were built over a century ago, you will feel as though you had traveled back in time.

You can experience making your own traditional Okinawan drinking sets called yushibin,  sata andagi (Okinawan deep-fried donuts), shisa lion dog statues,  and glass kaleidoscopes. You can even learn how to play the traditional Okinawan musical instrument, the sanshin.

There are many attractions in the park to keep you occupied for an entire day. One of the main attractions is the Michi June which consists of performers dancing and parading through the village and performing Okinawa’s traditional eisa dance. Some might even say that there’s no point in coming to Okinawa if you don’t get to see an eisa performance.

Authentic Ryukyuan costumes can be rented in the park. You can walk around the park for an hour wearing the costumes. There are also simple rental costumes available for commemorative photos.

If you have time, you may also want to have dinner in one of the old houses, where you can get  a taste of Okinawa nightlife.　(Prior reservations required)
