Okinawa Kodomo no Kuni (Okinawa Zoo & Museum)
See Okinawa’s unique animals at the only zoo in Okinawa
Okinawa Zoo & Museum is the only zoo in Okinawa Prefecture. At the zoo you can see unusual animals such as the Ryukyu dog, Daito dog and Yakushima monkey, which can only be found in the Ryukyus.
Of course, there are also animals typically found in zoos such as elephants and lions and a petting zoo where you can feed animals and touch chicks and guinea pigs. There are also events that focus on Okinawa’s animals and insects, where you can learn a lot about Okinawa’s living creatures.
You can even ride Yonaguni ponies and Jeju ponies, making it a zoo that everyone from children to adults can enjoy.
Have an experience like none other at the Wonder Museum
At the experience-based Wonder Museum, there is an area where you can have unusual experiences and programs that stimulate your knowledge and senses. In particular, older elementary school students are likely to enjoy the Wonder Museum more than the zoo.
In the Water Field Area you can enjoy birdwatching, fishing at the fishing pond and charter boats. Furthermore, at the Furusato-en there are recreations of traditional Okinawan-style houses where you can learn about the lives of Okinawa’s ancestors.
