Cape Maeda

Incredibly clear waters that can be enjoyed whether you get in the water or not

 

If you drive about 1 hour northbound from Naha Airport, you will reach Cape Maeda in Onna Village. It is a popular sightseeing spot, with tropical fish and coral reefs in the surrounding clear waters and the superb view of the sharp cliff created by coral.

 

If you walk down the long stairway from the parking lot at the top of the cape you will reach shallow ocean and reefs. As the water depth changes from 1 meter to 40 meters in a short distance it is one of the most popular diving spots in the prefecture. The marine spot known as the Blue Cave is renowned throughout Japan and has become a popular spot for diving, snorkeling, swimming and fishing.

 

At the tip of Cape Maeda there is an observation deck that has become renowned as a photo spot and there is also an open area perfect for picnics, and a walking path surrounded by subtropical plants, making it a place where even those who don’t like dipping in the ocean a chance to fully enjoy Okinawa’s sun, wind and nature. You are sure to be moved by the beautiful view of the sunset from Cape Maeda! If you plan to visit Cape Maeda, we recommend visiting during sunset time.
