Joriku Park
A scenic place where pioneers first landed on Kitadaito Island
This park was opened to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the development of Kitadaito Island. Although it is a park, there is no playground. Instead, there is a monument to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the development of the island and a single pavilion in an inconspicuous open area.
From the back of the pavilion you can see the place where Tamaoki Hanemon, who developed the Daito Islands, first landed ono the island. Kitadaito Island is surrounded by precipitous cliffs, so this area with its natural inlet was the perfect place to make landfall. It is possible to reach the landing point below the cliff if you go down the hill on the wooden path. It is a rather steep slope and if you look up from the landing point at the bottom of the cliff, you are sure to be reminded of the pioneers who first landed here and climbed up this hill.
The ocean around the park is especially vivid and is a great spot to relax and enjoy the view of the sea.
