Ie Island Hibiscus Garden

Over 1000 species of hibiscus bloom at one of the top tourist attractions on Ie Island

Hibiscus flowers project the image of a tropical paradise and are often used in Okinawa’s tourist guidebooks and promotional videos. The flowers can be seen year-round in Okinawa, even on the side of the road, and contrast beautifully with the beautiful sky and sea.

At Ie Island Hibiscus Garden, hibiscus plants are cultivated, displayed, and sold. From rare varieties to original varieties created on Ie Island, there are over 1000 species at the gardens! See hibiscus flowers of many shapes, colors, and sizes.

Ie Island can be reached in about 30 minutes by ferry from Motobu Port in Okinawa Island’s northern area. As there are multiple roundtrip ferries per day, it is possible to visit the island for a day trip. As the display building has a greenhouse, you can visit the gardens even on rainy days.

The gardens were renovated and reopened in May 2019 and are expected to continue gaining popularity.
