Koza

A town where you can experience post-war Okinawa & Okinawa’s music scene

Post-war, Koza was a bustling shopping district that was frequented by U.S. military servicemen. Gate Street was the main street in the area and even today there are English signs, English-speaking people and stores that accept U.S. dollars. You will feel like you were in a retro America just by walking around Koza. There are many stores that have been patronized by locals since the post-war era and lots of restaurants serving delicious food. We recommended getting a copy of a pamphlet called Koza Map that contains information on Koza and exploring the area in search of its hidden treasures. Koza is also know as a music town. Along with Koza Music Town there are many live houses and live music can be enjoyed all year-long. On weekend nights the area turns into a pub area frequented by locals. We recommend going bar-hopping and interacting with local people. As there are many shops open until late at night, it is a great place to go for those who want to enjoy Okinawa’s nightlife.
